Last month Allyn and I celebrated our anniversary, spending the night at the contemporary Novotel Blackfriars Hotel in their beautiful top floor executive room.
Here is our story.
Twas three nights before Christmas and all through their flat,
nothing was stirring, not even a stray cat.
Because the master and miss were out for the night,
to celebrate their love by a skyscraper of light.
Two years they’d been together, best friends and lovers,
and so off they went for a night like no other.
They’d been invited to stay at a London hotel.
Here they would meet by the lifts (I mean) stairwell.
The girl arrived first, checking in with great speed.
She was given two keys, with a smile that did please.
Up she went in the lift to the thirteenth floor,
where at the end of the hall was an executive door.
As she tapped her key and the door clicked open,
she held her breathe as the room suddenly brightened.
A short corridor lead to a spacious room on one side,
on the right was a bathroom that was currently disguised.
At once she ran over and pulled open the nets.
Immediately she gasped at the sight her eyes met.
For right in the middle was a building we all know,
whilst tiny bodies and cars bustled on down below.
A large bed in the centre was surrounded by light.
On the other side sat a desk, the perfect place to write.
Here the girl poured her heart out with many a written word,
to tell her man why she loved him, a phrase not unheard.
As she looked at the clock she gasped at the time!
Not long till the other would join her in rhyme.
She stepped into the bathroom and smiled at its size,
for it was spacious and warm, a pleasant surprise.
The girl hopped in the shower and was soon fresh as a daisy.
To miss out on the open waters she’d have had to been crazy!
Then back out she went into the luxurious room,
where she sat and gave her nails a much needed groom.
Knock knock! “Who could that be?”
… she said in a whisper,
not for a while was she expecting the mister.
As she opened the door the girl grinned in glee,
before her stood a present for their anniversary.
Makeup applied, hair curled and heels on,
she threw on some lippie and then she was gone.
As she reached the ground floor she saw
the most handsome guy,
smartly dressed with a smile, she knew those blue eyes.
They walked hand in hand to the restaurant next door,
Jamboree, a Caribbean spot for spicy food and more.
Two cocktails were ordered, both refreshing and fruity,
then two burgers, two sides, a food heaven beauty!
Up to the top floor they rose in the lift.
It was time to give their most meaningful of gifts.
Words of love were exchanged, presents unwrapped,
each thoughtful and teary, many moments recapped.
With the sky now dark, the city lights shone through.
The man and his lover both enjoyed the spectacular view.
Two glasses of Prosecco were poured for a cheers,
as the Shard sparkled away, so close and so clear.
The next morning the two awoke, light streaming in.
The city was alive, and so must their day begin.
Down they went to the restaurant for fresh juice and tea,
hot breakfast, fresh pastries and a cup of coffee.
After packing upstairs they headed down to the spa.
Why not enjoy a quick swim, relax in the sauna?
It was relaxing and quiet, a perfect retreat,
for a last bit of aaaaaaah before heading back out onto the streets.
Keys returned, all checked out, as they left they both smiled,
looking back at the hotel, the winter air crisp and mild.
They’d shared a perfect evening, at the Novotel Blackfriars,
a place of fond memories, meeting their hearts’ desires.
