Postcards from Vienna and Wachau Valley

vienna

Whoever started the phrase ‘Don’t forget to look up’ came from Vienna. Or at least he was a traveller who shared my adoration for ornate architecture and blue skies.

Since leaving the Austrian capital, I’ve begun to wonder how it had taken me so long to arrive. Endless palaces contained a wealth of art and history, baroque buildings each delicately different from their neighbour, deep green hills and a flowing river cutting through the city… search my blog and you’ll find that these are the common factors that make up the places I love. So to find them all in one striking city? Well I was madly deeply in Austrian love.

And the food! Oh the food. Strudel upon pastries upon chocolates upon wine. You’ll have to wait for that post 😉

As this trip was a special birthday celebration rather than a blogging adventure, I took advantage of being able to take off my blogging coat and instead revel in relaxing my way around the city, snapping the sights that made me gasp but mostly taking it in with my eyes. So instead of writing a full post, I’m sharing the photographs I couldn’t resist taking, with Postcards from Vienna and the nearby Wachau Valley…

  1. Oooh, that Wachau Valley is so gorgeous! No doubt that the Castle on the hill will turn out like a fairy tale if its covered with snow! I went to Vienna two months ago, but I didn’t know about this wonderful place. x
